Message from Father Thu / Mensaje del Padre Thu

April 5, 2020 – Passion Palm Sunday/Pasion Ramos Domingo

My brothers and sisters! This year our worshipping format made history that we celebrate our Lord entrance as King in his own city and fulfill his passion, death, and resurrection from a distance; but our faith does not shake like the passion reading tells us. In this time of pandemic coronavirus, reassure that my daily prayers at masses are for all of your safety and not infect with coronavirus. “Jesus warns the disciples at the Last Supper that their faith would be shaken, but the disciples deny that this will ever happen. Nonetheless, faith is greatly threatened when there is a great cost, and we instinctively protect ourselves: the disciples flee; the Jewish leaders are adamant about destroying Jesus. Jesus alone remains unshaken in his faith: in the Garden, he says yes to his Father’s will, he is silent before his accusers’ false accusations, he willingly gives up his spirit on the cross. Instead of protecting himself, Jesus embraces the cost of his suffering and death—the great sign of his own faithfulness. An even greater sign is yet to come.” If our Lord is unshaken of his mission and destiny, we are his adopted children will prevail this pandemic. May our Lord keep our faith unshaken and our lives safe.

A new liturgical adaptation of Palm Sunday and Triduum Celebration is posted on the Website effectively March 30, 2020. Please stream the Mass and listen to Radio 104.1 FM at our Parish Scheduled Masses. We are unable to celebrate together and only through viewing on our television and listening on the Radio. Don’t be disheartened! Now our faith is ever stronger than ever. I want to emphasize and encourage all of you to know that the parish needs your financial support as ever. Please be generous and considerate through giving in stewardship. I know that you are unable to put in the basket your donation in Church, but you can sign up and give your generosity through Giving Online. Here is how:

If you need help with how to setup please call the parish office or me to help you. If you need pastoral care and sacramental care because of your homebound at this moment please text me with your information to (972) 310-7592 and I will accommodate the best I can. Again, remember that my daily prayers at mass are for all of you. May God protect you from all harms especially coronavirus and may God always guide you in your faith to practice and strongly rely on Him at this moment of crisis. Sincerely yours, father Thu

¡No te desanimes!

Sinceramente suyo, padre Thu

Fasting and Abstinence:
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are OBLIGATORY DAYS OF FASTING AND ABSTINENCE FOR CATHOLICS. In addition, Fridays during Lent or obligatory days of abstinence. For members of the Latin Catholic Church, the norms on fasting are obligatory from age of 18-59. The norms concerning abstinence from meat are binding upon members of the Latin Catholic Church from 14 onwards. If possible, the fast on Good Friday is continued until Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday night) as the 'paschal fast" to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus and to prepare ourselves to share more fully and to celebrate more readily his Ressurection.
Christian tradition can name at least seven reasons for fasting: 1. From the beginning, God commanded some fasting and sin entered into the world because Adam and Eve broke the fast. 2. For the Christian fasting is ultimately about fasting from sin. 3. Fasting reveals our dependence on God and not the resources of this world. 4. Fasting is an ancient way of preparing for the Eucharist-the truest of foods. 5. Fasting is preparation for baptism (and all the sacraments)-for the reception of grace 6. Fasting is a means of saving resources to give to the poor. 7. Fasting is a means of self-discipline, chastity, and the restraining of the appetites.
