Teen First Reconciliation & First Eucharist Preparation

Teen First Reconciliation & First Eucharist Preparation
2020-2021 Catechetical Year

Teen Holy Communion at St. Jude is a One Year Preparation. This class is for students baptized in the Catholic Faith. The class is Sunday morning at 8:45. Preparation for the celebration of the Eucharist and Reconciliation is an integral part of your child’s life. We journey together with you to help prepare your child for the celebration of the initiation sacraments of Reconciliation (Confession) & the Eucharist (Holy Communion).

Teens are required to participate in their regular age-appropriate faith formation class in addition to the First Holy Communion Class. We find that TEEN students who missed these sacraments need the catechesis of both classes to get them ready for their Sacraments. Enroll your student in the Teen Communion class. Enroll your student in one of these three age-appropriate Faith Formation Classes. The Grade determines Age-appropriate class the student is attending.

For unbaptized teens, we offer (RCIA) Rite of Christian Initiation adapted for Children. Please click on the RCIA box for information.

ConsiderThe important connection between sacrifice and the forgiveness of sins in both the Old and New Testaments. This also sets the stage for seeing the significance of the sacrificial aspect of the Mass. Father Mitch Pacwa, S.J.

The TEEN will study the 10 Commandments, and we will help them make the connection of Reconciliation and the Eucharist through the Bible, and Tradition.

Mass Attendance

We require TEEN to attend Mass every Sunday with their family. – Mass is the most powerful prayer there is. It is where we give praise and thanks to God and give Him the proper worship as we prepare ourselves to receive the Gift of His Body and Blood.

The Eucharist is
Source & Summit of The Catholic Faith!

When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed, and broke it,
and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened and they recognized him,
and he vanished out of their sight. (Lk 24:30-31)

First Communion Requirements

The Teen must be baptized in the Catholic faith. The participant must attend a faith formation class with good attendance as they prepare for their Holy Communion Sacrament. Teen must be able to recite the basic prayers, Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, and the Act of Contrition. They will have a retreat offered in their Faith Formation Class. Make the Sign of the Cross and Genuflect before the altar.

The Teen’s readiness for the celebration of the sacrament is to be determined by the director of faith formation or pastor. Active Participation is expected of your Teen for this important class.

The teacher will be working each week with your Teen looking for
~ A trust in God’s forgiving love, and express some desire to receive Jesus.

~ The ability to distinguish between ordinary bread and the Eucharist.
~ A sense of belonging to the Church community.
~ An understanding of forgiveness, a desire to give and receive forgiveness.
~ How do they understand sin? The Teen demonstrates the ability to describe wrongdoing in his/her own words.
~An ability to say, “I’m sorry” to express a sense of repentance.

Registration – Teen Holy Communion

Teen Holy Communion Orientation is for parents and students to learn about the sacrament preparation process. The parent will need to turn in a copy of the TEEN'S baptism certificate by the Orientation Meeting. The baptism document is a MUST for your student to be enrolled in the class. Order a copy from the Church of Baptism if you do not have a copy at home.

Register your Teen into two classes if they need First Holy Communion and Reconciliation.
